Regarding safety, we lead our industry. Our company-wide commitment is reflected in full-time safety directors, regular training, and a 24-7 safety mindset. As a result, our “Experience Modification Rating” is significantly lower than the state average every year. And, as a member of an insurance captive, we’ve placed in the top 25 percent of members for eight consecutive years, including four straight years, as the best in our industry. Recently, we had the top overall safety record among the captive’s 292 members.
Stewart & Tate utilizes a paperless safety management system to provide our employees with all the necessary tools to conduct their jobs. Equipped with iPads, field employees have the ability to access necessary documents, forms, manuals, and information in one place, no matter where they are. This web-based system allows them to fill out job safety analyses (JSAs), hot work permits, client-specific forms, toolbox talks, and any other forms needed to perform any task. Each signature has the employee’s name clearly printed next to it and is automatically time stamped. Photos may also be uploaded to prove a corrective action was taken or to document an injury. Once a form is completed and signed on a mobile device, it is immediately available at the main office. Using this system enables our company to track safety analytics and trends easily. In addition, it allows our field supervisors and safety department personnel to spend more time in the field with our employees.
Stewart & Tate has also developed a superior training program. New employees attend a 2-day safety orientation to ensure that they are prepared for their first day in the field. We then conduct weekly toolbox talks, monthly safety meetings, and annual company-wide safety training.
