Medical facilities are one of the most sensitive, if not the most sensitive, construction settings. Typical construction issues such as noise, dust, vibration, utility interruptions, or even odors within these environments can have life-threatening consequences. Our team of veterans has a proven track record when it comes to safely working within sensitive medical settings.
Stewart & Tate Construction has worked closely with Patient First over the last several years in constructing numerous facilities throughout central Pennsylvania. Patient First provides walk-in urgent care for routine injuries and illnesses and primary care for patients without a regular physician. In addition to staff offices, exam rooms, and a waiting room, the roughly 7,000-square-foot medical centers include on-site x-ray and lab testing capabilities.
Stewart & Tate Construction was selected to serve as general contractor for this new health care facility located in Conowingo in West Cecil County. The new 24,000 SF center replaces the organizations old 4,000 SF facility and serves to increase access to health care by providing affordable and quality services. The practice provides general health care services, dentistry, women’s health services, and behavioral health services.
Stewart & Tate completed the construction of this new one-story medical facility containing 23 exam rooms, physicians’ offices, laboratory, pharmacy, x-ray room, scanning room, collection areas, procedure rooms, food prep and break room, laundry, storage, retail area, and space for future expansion. The building is steel frame with steel deck roof. During construction, a 2,200 SF addition was added to the facility to house rehab services.

This 83,000 SF facility includes medical oncology, radiation oncology (including Linear Accelerator), imaging (including CT Scan, Dexa, Mammo, Digital Rad), pharmacy, physical medicine and rehabilitation, sleep lab, café, behavioral health services, and neurology/endocrinology services. The addition and renovation allows three practices to operate independently under the same roof. This addition includes a 3,800 SF basement for storage. All utilities were upgraded and separated.
The all brick building includes three waiting areas, 2 check-in/check-out areas, 2 records rooms, 10 exam rooms, 2 management offices, a meeting room, 4 bathrooms, 2 lounges, 1 meeting room, 2 business offices and an accounting office. Retail products are showcased in their lobby in custom display cabinetry.
On the exterior, 29 additional parking spaces were created with underground storm water management system and porous pavement. New sidewalks and landscaping complete the exterior.
When Internal Medicine Consultants of York outgrew their existing, outmoded facilities, they selected Stewart & Tate Construction as their contractor. The challenge was to double the size of the facility, relocate, then completely renovate the original offices— all while keeping the practice open and protecting staff and patients from construction hazards.
Initial work was hampered by the need to relocate an entanglement of utilities and create temporary access. Off-hour utility shutdowns made relocation work possible with no down time to the practice.
After relocating and re-establishing the practice over a weekend, work began on the conversion of the existing area into modern medical facilities. This frequently required innovative techniques to install equipment, relocate utilities and services, and create adequate sound attenuation between renovated areas. This project consisted of 4,200 SF of new construction and a 4,300 SF renovation.
This project consisted of a pharmacy, central sterile service area, security center, new 4th floor south wing composed of seven new operating rooms and a PACU, a north wing 4th floor area that contains 28 new beds in the MED/SURG department, connecting bridges at the fourth floor level that tie in to the existing floor of the main hospital, ten new same day surgery rooms, exam rooms, offices, relocation of the helipad, five new elevators, an emergency generator, chillers, cooling towers, and air handling units in a mechanical penthouse.
Stewart & Tate Construction served as general contractor for the renovations to convert Hanover Hospital’s fourth floor patient wing into 16 high-end, single occupancy patient rooms for medical-surgical unit (M-4). Work included 14,000 SF of comprehensive interior renovations to patient rooms, nursing stations, and triage. Construction duration was 7 months.
This three-story, 36,560 SF medical office building with partial basement houses financial services, an apothecary, cardiologist and family practice. Significant site constraints and building height limitations required a creative approach to meet the owner’s space requirements. The base building took approximately six months to construct and tenant finishes followed.
Stewart & Tate Construction completed comprehensive renovations to medical office suite 290 in the Apple Hill Medical Center for Wellspan Orthopedics. Work included renovations to the exam rooms, X-ray room, waiting room, reception area, doctor’s offices, and staff lounge.
